or Scream!!!! This BOy is a hoot! The group spoke...whenever I look over as I am on the laptop, in the AM....this is what I see...Ggrail especially loves the little man! Some photos from Saturday, before heading out on a long drive south, to his first Flyball practice. He is a smarty for sure, drivey, yet a love too. He did restrained recalls on the flat to his tug-yelling to be let go, straight, fast lines flying to get his tug.
No distracted baby pup stuff with this BOy, all about business & getting the task accomplished and a few kisses for the person holding him, but watch out world and let me go!!!!...the sounds that come out of his little body, part migrating geese, part demon within...drive coming out of his vocal chords....made those watching, Laugh Out Loud.
We literally saw many flocks of migrating geese careening in several directions out in the parking/field area while practicing...not sure if they were heading south or just in an overhead holding pattern, deciding whether to land, with the bizarre 50F warm weather for January.
Taking the BOy in and out of the building, to hang out in the car-so not a constant stream of stimulus-swear he loked skyward a few times at all the geese and gave them a nod, like "I sound like that too" :)
Nice to see how turned onto task he was, we will work on the calm watching, impulse control too......don't need a screaming maniac...have another of those already, in red.
Speaking of red demons....Quechee had a lot of fun working on boxturns and restrained recalls in the lane. For not being at a practice in many months, was very happy to see that our skills we are practicing for teamwork as well as sport, coming together during this practice. We did lot's of "gotcha's" - playfully grabbing her scruff or collar to reset for next access to the ball. Funny, some trainers feel the need to always have the dog come into pressure at your side-or you have "failed". For Q, she is like her mother where when in drive, going into her pressure zone at a certain distance, is just easier for her. Moss was like this when younger too-had to ask him to lie down, to go to him, to take his collar, but by approximating our successes, developed into a lie down to give his brain a chance to change focus/emotional temperature and then recall to my side.
Know Q and I can work that through and gain more flexibility in working space, so why fight it right now, that can come later-just very happy to see the results of our other "work" coming together-I will take it! I approximate and reward my own successes too :) Quechee is bringing out the creative problem solver in me, even moreso than recent pups. She is a handful, wouldn't have it any other way. I Laugh Out Loud daily, at the antics of my crew!!! Why not, it's only dogtraining!!
